On 20th Feb 2022, all people of Punjab will vote for new government because the tenure of present government is going to end soon. The total assembly seats in Punjab is 117 and any political party or alliance needs 58 seats to form the next government in Punjab. Mostly, the state of Punjab has remained a fight between two political parties or groups. For the last few years, the fight in Punjab has remained between Congress and Akali Dal-BJP alliance. However, this time due to farmer agitation, Akali Dal has pulled out from the 25 years old with BJP. This alliance saw many many big victories and they ruled Punjab multiple times. This time, Akali Dal has moved to Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to compensate for the vote loss while BJP has gone to the alliance with Amrinder Singh's People Lok Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt).
Aam Admi Party was the new entry into Punjab in 2017 that become the second largest political party after Congress in Punjab. This time, Aam Admi Party is looking to make government in Punjab because it wants to increase its last year performance. To increase its chances in the 2022 Punjab assembly election, AAP was the first political party to announce its chief ministerial candidate. It announced the name of Bhagwant Mann as its Chief Minister candidate after taking a telephonic survey of people. To cater for the popularity of AAP, congress has also announced the name Charanjit Singh Channi as its chief ministerial candidate.
To increase the heat, many farmer leaders have also entered the election game. All these things have made the Punjab assembly election 2022 very interesting and difficult to predict. Only on the 10th of March 2022, we will come to know that who is the actual winner of Punjab whether it is a comeback for Congress or Akali Dal enters office after 5 years of gap or the Aam Admi party creates new history by making the first government in Punjab or BJP and its alliance wins a big number of seats.
All these factors make the election battle very tough in Punjab and I am seeing this for the first time. Overall, it is good for the healthy political system of India and Punjab.
