Om Shanti Om is all set to become biggest commercial hit

One thing about “Om Shanti Om”, a Shahrukh Khan Starter movie, was clear even before its release that Om Shanti Om is going to be a big commercial hit. This movie is also produced by Shahrukh Khan’s home production “Red Chillies Entertainment” and is directed by Farah Khan, who also directed the previous movie “Main Hoon Na” for this production house. Om Shanti Om earned around 75 crore rupees even before the release of movie by selling the various rights related to the movie. Now as per the latest news, Om Shanti Om has earned around 80 crore rupees in India and 15 crore rupees in Overseas markets in just three days of the opening. Therefore, 79 core rupees in just three days of the opening is an impressive start for the Om Shanti Om.

The total cost of production of Om Shanti Om is around 35 crore rupees and around 5 to 7.5 crore rupees (accurate figures not known) are spend on the publicity of this movie, thus final cost of the movie comes out around 40 to 42.5 crore. However, much more than the all money spend on the film and its publicity is achieved by Red Chillies before the launch of movie. The good news for the Om Shanti Om is positive reviews given to the movie by the audience, which further increases the hope of more earning for Om Shanti Om. If all goes well then Om Shanti Om will earn around 150 crore rupees in its first week, which will be around three times more than the first month earnings of “Chak de India” which was biggest commercial hit so far.

Therefore, now it is certain that Om Shanti Om will be biggest commercial hit of the year, really it is good news for Red Chillies, Shahrukh Khan and all the people associated with Om Shanti Om. There is also some good news for Sanjay Leela Bhansali that even after getting negative reviews, his movie “Saawariya” Starting new faces like Ranbir and Sonam, has also earned around 60 crore rupees from Indian and overseas business. Saawariya is made with around 40 crore rupees and around 10 crore rupees are being spend on the publicity, thus making total cost to 55 crore rupees. Therefore, Saawariya will also be second commercial hit; however, there are chances of decrease in the revenues of Saawariya as compared to Om Shanti Om.

The main thing which comes out of this amazing performance of both movies is role of publicity in making any film hit and attracting people towards the cinema halls. Both these movies have spent around 20 to 25 % of the total cost of movies in publicity which is highest ever In Indian cinema industry and equals to the level of Hollywood movies. Moreover, the commercial success of both these movies has further strengthened the role of massive publicity for making films hit. In future, most of the movies will also restore to the new trends set by Om Shanti Om and Saawariya.
