Around 15K deaths because of potholes in last five years

Bad roads, potholes, India,

Some data are very shocking and unbelievable. One similar data is about around 15K deaths in India because of potholes. These numbers are so alarming that even the Supreme Court of India raised a question on this issue. It is bad for any country to have so bad roads that they start killing more numbers of people than the actual number of people killed by any kind of war in the country. This clearly states that we don't need wars to kill people because our roads are already doing this job. The condition of Indian roads has always remained a matter of debate. Despite so many efforts, the condition of Indian roads is not good.

Even in big cities, it is very common to find potholes and bad roads then who cares about the small cities and villages. The main reason behind such problems is that there is no system to make concerned authorities accountable. The officials involved in road construction don't do their jobs properly and high corruption is another reason which fuels such problems. On these bad roads when people don't follow rules and regulations the chances of road accidents become very apparent.

I have been driving on Indian roads for more than fifteen years and I have faced many such problems with the roads. It is a constant affair to find bad roads when you are driving and sometimes, you find such a bad road that you don't want to drive on them. Today, we are seeing lots of progress in road infrastructure; however, still, a lot is required to be done. We need an immediate mechanism to fill all potholes as they appear but sadly such a swift response is still missing. Many potholes remain unattended for months and wait for big mishaps to happen.

In India, we need a strong policy on this matter to provide good and safe roads for our people.
